Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 30, 2015) – Brandon Hanks has shifted his focus to this Saturday’s ASCS Red River Region race at Timberline Speedway.

The David Smith Racing driver will compete for the first time at the track since recording a 10th-place finish during his debut in May.

“We made our debut in the J-R1 there in the spring so I’m excited to go back with all the knowledge we’ve gained since then,” he said. “We’ve been working really hard. I think we can contend for the win.”

Hanks is fresh from the 5th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway.

“We drew bad and started in the back of a heat race on Friday,” he said. “We were fighting from there on out.”

Hanks advanced from sixth to fifth place during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race, which relegated him to the fourth starting position in a B Main.

“In the B Feature I felt pretty confident we’d make the A Main,” he said. “On the start the guy who started in front of me just didn’t go. I didn’t have anywhere to go. There was a wall to my right and I was getting freight trained to my left. I was seventh at the flag stand. It was already hard to pass. I made it back up to fifth, but the race was over by then.”

Hanks missed a transfer after being slowed on the start of the consolation race.

He returned to the track on Saturday and won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That ranked him 12th in overall points and lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“We were up to about ninth or so 10 laps in,” he said. “We were doing ok running the bottom, but it started going away just a little. We had a caution and I think my tires sealed over. When we restarted it felt like I was on ice. I wasn’t going anywhere. I stayed on the bottom and I should have gone to the top. That was a lesson learned. Once we got going and got heat back in the tires I moved to the top and started going well again, but it was too late.”

Hanks dropped to the back after the restart and he rebounded to end with a 19th-place result.
