Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Sept. 22, 2015) – Brandon Hanks found a bright spot out of a frustrating weekend.

After patiently waiting three weeks while his primary engine was being rebuilt, Hanks was sidelined because of mechanical problems during last Thursday’s practice session for the Casey’s General Store Midwest Fall Brawl IV. The engine failure forced the team to miss the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader last weekend at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb.

“Luckily I have a buddy, Barry Simmerman, who let me throw his 305ci engine in my car and we went over to West Memphis on Saturday,” he said. “It’s definitely different. I’m not used to not having that horsepower. I had to adjust to that. We worked on the car all night trying to get it to turn. We kept taking stagger out of it and taking weight out of the left side.”

Hanks advanced from third to second place during his heat race at Riverside International Speedway. That lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“We had a fun night,” he said. “The top three, we raced each other the whole time for the lead. I’d be first for a lap and then fall to third, get back to second and battle for the lead again. We were having a blast. I did have a steering box issue that hurt me at the end. I think I ran out of fluid. That and the track was getting better so the car was getting tighter.”

Hanks earned a third-place result, which was his sixth podium finish of the season.

His 360ci engines are both currently being rebuilt, but Hanks said his hope is to have one repaired in time to compete this Friday and Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the 5th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

If it doesn’t get turned around in time Hanks said he will team up with Simmerman to race again on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.
