Inside Line Promotions – PEEBLES, Ohio (Sept. 23, 2014) – Derek Hagar wrapped up his six-race stint with Destiny Motorsports by recording a top five last Saturday at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex.

“It was a good way to end our weekend,” he said. “I can’t thank Destiny Motorsports and everyone associated with the team enough for the opportunity and support. I hope we can work together again in the near future.”

Hagar’s top-five result capped a four-race slate throughout Indiana and Ohio last weekend.

He made his debut at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series a week ago Tuesday. Hagar qualified 34th quickest, finished ninth in his heat race and ended third – only one spot out of a transfer – in the C Main.

“We struggled with the car all night,” he said. “We threw a lot of stuff at it before the C Main and we got it a lot better. Once you get behind with the Outlaws there’s not much you can overcome.”

Hagar made his winged sprint car debut at Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, Ind., on Wednesday with the World of Outlaws. He timed in 21st quickest and placed fifth in his heat race to lock himself into the main event.

“We had a real good car,” he said. “We got lapped about 15 laps through the feature and then we got a caution so our night was pretty much over as far as gaining anymore positions. I stayed out there to get as many laps as I could.”

Hagar finished with a 16th-place result.

The team tackled the World of Outlaws event at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday.

“We had a really good car all night at Eldora,” he said. “We were a tenth off from being in a lot of different positions in qualifying. It was that close. One little hiccup could cost you so many positions. Unfortunately we were out of the invert and had to start sixth in the heat race behind some good cars.”

Hagar placed sixth in his heat race to miss a lock-in position to the feature by only one spot. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown.

“It took a couple of laps to figure out where the car liked to be on the race track,” he said. “I fell back to eighth or ninth and then rebounded to miss the transfer by one spot.”

The weekend concluded with a solid performance on Saturday at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions.

Hagar qualified third quickest and charged from fourth to second place in his heat race to advance into the dash. He then finished second in the dash after drawing the pole.

“I got the jump on the polesitter and led about 15 laps in the feature,” he said. “The car was really good early. As the track went away my car went away and everybody else got better. I had some good competition I had to face with (Dale) Blaney, (Tim) Kaeding and Lee Jacobs. To stay out front as long as I did with those guys was a good momentum boost to end the weekend. A top five with those guys feels pretty good, but it would have been nice to get the win.”

Hagar will return to his sprint car this Friday and Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. He will compete in both the wing and nonwing classes.
