Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 28, 2014) – Tony Bruce Jr. recorded a pair of top 10s during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial last weekend.

Bruce Jr. overcame a high pill draw to kick off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader on Friday at Lucas Oil Raceway.

“Unfortunately on Friday we drew the 72, which is the highest number,” he said. “Usually when you draw the last number it can be ok if the track is racy. We were the first heat race out and started ninth. It was one of those deals where the track was pretty wet and there wasn’t a lot of passing.”

Bruce Jr. advanced from ninth to sixth place, which relegated the One 8 Motorsports car to a B Main.

“I had a pretty good car in the B Main, but a driver error happened and I spun out so I had to go to the back,” he said. “We probably could have made it out of the B Main, but unfortunately I messed up. I wasn’t able to make it to a transfer.”

That forced Bruce Jr. to use a series provisional to start last – 24th – in the main event.

“We had a really strong car,” he said. “We really didn’t change anything. The track finally came around and got pretty wide and slick through the middle. It was actually really racy.”

Bruce Jr. maneuvered to a 10th-place result, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

The One 8 Motorsports team returned to Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday.

“The race track was really racy in the heats so it allowed for a lot of passing,” said Bruce Jr., who drove from fifth to second place in his heat.

He then pulled the No. 7 in the feature redraw to line up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We were pretty good in the A Main,” he said. “They reworked the race track right before the race. I didn’t really know what to do so I left the car free. I was good early, but there toward the end I had nothing for those guys. I started getting loose and I couldn’t stick the bottom as well.”

Bruce Jr. ended with a fourth-place finish.

He will take the next couple of weekends off before racing Oct. 17-18 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 41st annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“We’ve got quite a bit to do here,” he said. “There’s a lot of organizing in the shop that I want to do. We’ll take a couple of weeks off and get ready for the final push. We have a lot of big races coming up.”
