This past weekend rain once again tortured the Diamond of Dirt Tracks as we lost day one of the Dixie Chopper Pro-Pulling Nationals. Counting the SuperClean Diamond Nationals and the Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing Event, this is the third straight National event loss. Not to mention the Lucas Oil Round Up PRCA Pro Rodeo and numerous weekly shows.
“It’s been a tough year on all the area tracks,” said Kevin Greven, General Track Manager. “Bad weather mixed with high gas prices and the general economy has definitely been felt this season at the front gate.”
The loss of the three biggest revenue-generating events of the season has forced officials to re-evaluate the remainder of the 2008 schedule. It had been our desire to reward our awesome weekly racing classes with a couple “double money race nights” per class. However, after taking a realistic look at the first half of this rain marred season, track officials have made the decision to suspend the remaining double money weekly events.
These changes shall be in effect beginning with this week’s July 5th “A” Modified race. The Pitt’s Homes “A” Mods will still be in action but the purse will return to the normal weekly pay out. This will also apply to the July 12 ULMA, August 16th “A” Mod and August 30th Factory Stock double money races as well.
In addition, the “A” Modified event scheduled to run in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Models on July 19th will run for the standard weekly purse not a special payout. Finally, the Factory Stock event scheduled for the August 23rd O’Reilly MLRA Night has been canceled.
“We hope the racers and fans understand that these changes to the schedule simply reflect sound business decisions,” added Greven, “they simply insure a continued weekly racing schedule at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks.”
